About Carolyn

carolyn_chairCarolyn Betts is a published author, a seasoned speaker, and a certified coach on Life Transitions.

A life-long learner with determination, Carolyn went back to school after 50 years of age, when her children were adults to pursue her Master’s Degree. She now holds a Master of Art’s degree in Psychology, with an Academic Certificate in Life Transition’s Coaching from Regis University, Colorado Springs, CO. In 2008, she received a scholarship and training in Mediation from the Colorado State Bar Association.

Over the past years, while raising a family and pursuing professional interests, Carolyn has established herself as a published author, a professional speaker, and a Life Transitions Specialist.

As an author, her work has been published by major publishers including Charles Scribner and Son’s Publisher/Simon & Schuster. Her latest work is “A Special Kind or Normal: A mother’s journey through autism to destiny” which was written for parents, professionals and para-professionals who work with, or advocate for children. Her career as a professional speaker spans over the past 25 years. Carolyn was groomed through Toastmaster’s International to gain in-depth speaking and leadership skills. Now, combined with her coaching expertise, she conducts seminars on Life Transitions to help people who are faced with major challenges in their lives. Prior to becoming active as a speaker, Carolyn worked in politics for 12 years at the pleasure of governors. She served on the Arizona Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities, as well as the Council on Family, Youth, and Children. President Ronald Reagan included Carolyn’s work in his library while she served as an advocate for people with disabilities with then Governor Richard Thornburgh, who later became U.S. Attorney General.

Being an advocate of people with physical challenges, Carolyn coordinated a bicycle trek across America in a group of challenged and able bodied people in 1980. She rode tandem bicycles with her partner who was visually impaired.

Carolyn has been a part of the American Business Women’s Association for 9 years now.

Carolyn_with_PeterCoyote In this 1991 newspaper clipping, Carolyn was photographed with actor Peter Coyote when he was in town. They were filming in a movie, initially named “Blind Judgement;” but was later entitled “A Seduction in Travis County.” The paper reads, “Coyote was taking advantage of a break in the action to show actress Carolyn Betts a spot on a map.”

On a personal note, Carolyn raised 2 children, mainly as a single parent. She believes in God, miracles, friendship, love, and adventures that come from knowing what happiness feels like.
